Pope Benedict XVI launched his own channel on YouTube Friday in an effort to use new technology to reach a younger audience.
The slick site features the columns of St. Peter’s Square in the background with links to official Vatican Web sites at the top. A large video player features prominently above clips of the pope and other Vatican officials.
Users can view the site in Italian, English, Spanish, and German, and plans are in the works to include other languages, said Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi.

This is Really good news for the Youtube Lovers. Google Acquired You Tube Launching Live Video on 22 November 2008 5 PM PST.
So, on November 22 in San Francisco, it is launching “YouTube Live,” a show featuring well-known stars such as rapper Will.i.Am and singer Katy Perry and YouTube sensations like 20-year-old Esmee Denters, who posted video of herself covering popular songs and became a star on the World Wide Web.
Singer Katy Perry, whose hit song “I Kissed a Girl” became an international chart-topper over the summer, will open the show. Perry, whose label is Capitol Music Group, posts videos at her own “channel” on YouTube.
